IMI LEVEL 2 AWARD IN MOT TESTING (CLASSES 1 AND 2)

This course will cover theory and practical training on being an MOT tester for class 1 and 2 vehicles. This IMI Level 2 Award qualification is recognised by DVSA, and is developed for individuals who want to boost their career as an MOT Tester.

COURSE ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to undertake this MOT Tester training, you must:

Have a current and full UK driving licence for the classes of vehicle you wish to test
Be a skilled mechanic, with at least 4 years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested
Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation
Be of good repute.
Complete a basic DBS check.

Class 1 - motorcycles or motorcycle combinations up to 200cc and motorcycles with not more than 4kW maximum continuous rated power and a maximum design speed up to 45km/h (28mph) - Category L1, L3 and L4.

Class 2 - all motorcycles or motorcycle combinations other than those in category L1.

MOT TESTING CLASS 3

This course covers MOT tests for class 3 vehicles, both practical and theory lessons are provided.

COURSE ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to undertake this MOT Tester training, you must:

Be a qualified Class 4 and 7 MOT tester.
Have a current and full UK driving licence for the classes of vehicle you wish to test
Complete a basic DBS check

Class 3 vehicles are three-wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight of 450kg or less.

IMI LEVEL 2 AWARD IN MOT TESTING (CLASSES 4 AND 7)

This course will cover both theory and practical lessons on being an MOT tester for classes 4 and 7 vehicles. This IMI Level 2 Award qualification is recognised by DVSA, and is developed for individuals who want to boost their career as an MOT Tester.

To be eligible to undertake this MOT Tester training, you must:

Have a current and full UK driving licence for the classes of vehicle you wish to test

In addition, anyone wishing to become a tester for vehicles of classes 3, 4, 5 or 7 must either possess an acceptable vocational educational qualification or acceptable accreditation.

Class 4 vehicles are passenger cars and light goods vehicles weighing under 3,000kg, while class 7 are commercial vehicles weighing between 3,000 to 3,500kg.

MOT TESTING CLASS 5

The MOT Class 5 course is developed for those wishing to boost their career by learning more about class 5 vehicles and testing conditions.

COURSE ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to undertake this MOT Tester training, you must:

Be a qualified Class 4 and 7 MOT tester.
Have a current and full UK driving licence for the classes of vehicle you wish to test
Complete a basic DBS check

Class 5 vehicles are private passenger vehicles, ambulances and motor caravans – thirteen or more passenger seats in all cases.

What existing knowledge is needed for this courses?

You need to be a skilled mechanic at least 4 years of full-time employment, permitted by law. A full UK driving licence and a good understanding of English and basic math.
